Cancer is
the result of a group of events that
induce aberrations in proliferation,
motility and invasion characteristics
of cells. It can originate almost
anywhere in the body. Nervous system
neoplasms are relatively rare diseases
whose disabling effects are out of
proportion to their incidence.
Cancer Biology at Siena Biotech is
committed to the discovery of treatments
to cure both glial tumors and medulloblastoma.
To this end, the identification and
validation of novel targets known
to be involved in a wide range of
neuro-oncology relevant pathways is
an important part of research.
In addition, a comprehensive panel
of functional cell-based assays are
developed and employed to monitor
the effect of compounds on targets
which are implied in neuro-oncology-relevant
signal transduction pathways. In strong
collaboration with other parts of
research, these activities should
lead to new treatments of brain cancer. |
